What size mailing bag do you need?

We are often asked "What size bags do I need?" or "Will a shoe box fit in this size bag?".
There is a simple calculation to work out the best size for your packing requirements. Add the length and depth of your item together to give you the bag length, then add the width and depth of your item together to give you the bag width. Then add around 5-10% to the bag dimensions as a 'safety' margin.
As the following example shows:-
  1. Measure the length (L), width (W) and depth (D) of your item. (eg: L=240mm, W=180mm, D=80mm)
  2. Add the length and depth together (eg: L 240mm + D 80mm = 320mm)
  3. This gives the  absolute MINIMUM LENGTH of the bag you require (320mm) so you need to add a 'safety' margin of about 10% (eg: 320mm + 10% (32mm) = 352mm)
  4. Your minimum bag length is 352mm
  5. Add the width and depth together (eg: W 180mm + D 80mm = 260mm)
  6. Again this gives the absolute MINIMUM WIDTH of the bag you require (260mm) so again you need to add about 10% ( eg: 260mm + 10% (26mm) = 286mm)
  7. Your minimum bag width is 286mm.
  8. You need a bag that is 286mm wide x 352mm long. In this instance a Large mail bag 290mm x 416mm is the closest size for your items.
Not all items are a nice box shape so you need to make sure you measure to the extremes in all dimensions and allow for any additional packing that may be required ie bubblewrap etc.
